About
The festival is held each January on Hwacheoncheon Stream in Hwacheon-eup, Gangwon Province, when the water freezes solid. Visitors catch sancheoneo, a mountain trout, and can eat it raw or grilled on the spot.
Activities include ice fishing, bare-handed catching, lure fishing, snow sledding and ice sledding. The Korea Tourism Organization page says it was named one of CNN's Seven Wonders of Winter in 2011 and draws more than one million visitors each year.
